On an exposed headland jutting into the English Channel, Jakob + MacFarlane were invited by Nadine Gandy to realize a project from used wooden pallets. In this place, the design team identified the idea of shelter as a primordial one – a shelter that protects while at the same time opening onto a view of distant islands.

The pallets are explored as a series of strata, creating walls that double as seating for the traveler. A Shelter for Peace is imagined as both a physical and symbolic sanctuary.

From outside this shelter, one observes the sea; from inside, one observes the sky – an ultimate window of reflection.
